...Update der Straßenzustände im GSENM vom 21.08.2013. :) Cottonwood Canyon Rd. (#400) has intermittent mud holes along its length that require 4WD High Clearance. Additional forecasted thunderstorms could make the road impassable. Smoky Mtn/Alvey Wash Rd. (#300) is currently impassable due to several mud holes along Alvey Wash. Thunderstorms are in the forecast through Sunday.

...Update der Straßenzustände im GSENM vom 24.07.2013 :) Skutumpah Rd (#500) was graded on 7/22, 7/23. It is currently 2WD, mostly dry, but under threat each afternoon by the next round of thunderstorms. Cottonwood Rd (#400) is currently 2WD high clearance from the north to Grosvenor Arch. Beyond the Cottonwood Narrows' TH's there is debris flow and rockfall on an approximate 3 mile stretch of road that requires high clearance. From the lower Hackberry Trailhead to US 89 the road is 2WD. Out of Escalante, the County closure sign remains in place on the northern end of Smoky Mtn/Alvey Wash Rd. Last report of the southern end of Smoky Mtn. still describes it as impassable at Wahweap Creek due to flood damage.

...neues Update vom 20.07.2013: The Smoky Mtn/Alvey Wash Road (#300) is impassable on both ends at present. Two days ago Garfield County closed the road on its northern end due to the repeated flooding of Alvey Wash, and last night a LARGE flood came down Wahweap Creek just out of Big Water and made the road impassable on its southern end as well. The Cottonwood Canyon Road (#400) was hit with heavy t-storms yesterday afternoon and evening. Numerous washes flooded along its length and passenger cars were stuck this morning in Dry Valley Wash on the northern end of the road. Current conditions make it impassable.

Vielleicht helfen dir meine Erfahrungen.
Eines aber vorab. In der Buckskin Gulch als auch in der Lower Paria River Gorge, je nach vorangegangener Wetterlage, mußt du mit nassen Füßen etc. rechnen, was aber kein Problem ist.

Vom WP-TH in die Buckskin Gulch ist eine schöne Halbtages-, bzw. Tageswanderung, je nachdem, wie weit du "vordringen" möchtest. Die Boulder nach den 5 oder 6 Alcoven sind ein guter Umkehrpunkt.

Das wäre diese Wanderung. Du kannst aber an der Confluence den Paria noch bis Wall Spring laufen - eine photogene Gegend.

Siehe oben, bzw.eine andere Variante.

Middle Route Exit ist nicht schwer, auch nicht für 50+. Die für mich angenehmste Route ist via Crack und Ledge, bzw. Ledge/Crack. Siehe auch Bild von Summitpost (Seil).
Ein kurzes Seil hilft, um das Gepäck herab zu lassen, oder hinauf zu ziehen. Durch Sand auf den Ledges kann es u.U.rutschig werden.

Geänderte Öffnungszeiten der GSENM Visitor Center: - Escalante VC ist ab dem 30.06.2013, wieder 7 Tage in der Woche geöffnet. Von 8:00 Uhr bis 16:30 Uhr. - Cannonville VC ist geöffnet Mittwoch – Sonntag von 8:00 Uhr bis 16:30 Uhr. Montag und Dienstag geschlossen! - Kanab VC ist 7 Tage wieder in der Woche geöffnet. Von 8:00 Uhr bis 16:30 Uhr. - Big Water VC ist geöffnet Freitag - Dienstag von 8:00 Uhr to 16:30 Uhr. Mittwoch und Donnerstag geschlossen! Alle Angaben ohne Gewähr!

...bist du zu einer kühlen Jahreszeit dort, können Neoprensocken von Vorteil sein.

Didi, wollt ihr mit RV und SUV zum WP-TH? Dann habt ihr ja euer mobiles Hotel dabei. Duschen nach einer langen Tages-Wanderung in den CBN oder CBS ist schon was feines und abends ein BBQ ebenso. Ansonsten könnt ihr den RV, für diese Zeitdauer, auch in Page auf dem Walmart-Parkplatz abstellen. Viel Spaß in den CB - ist eine wunderschöne Landschaft!
