Death Hollow ist eine Backpacking- Tour. Wenn du vom Escalante TH startest, dann braucht du auch kein Shuttle.

Am späten Nachmittag fährt man mit dem eigenen Auto zurück nach Escalante oder weiter nach Boulder. Neben den beschriebenen Zugängen gibt es noch mindestens drei Abstiegsrouten in diesen Canyon und natürlich auch den Death Hollow Canyon. Es gibt in dieser Gegend enorm viel zu entdecken. Das sehe ich auch so, Peter. Beide der hier beschriebenen Touren sind mehr oder weniger Stippvisiten des wunderschönen Upper Escalante Canyons. Gesendet von iPad mit Tapatalk

We've reached that quiet time of year out on Monument roads. Fewer patrols and updates coming in from staff, and certainly fewer visitors traveling the back roads. Safety/preparedness becomes even more of a factor, as you may not be encountering other travelers and vehicles out there. Make sure others know of your travel plans, and be prepared for emergency situations weather or otherwise. You never know when you might have to spend an unplanned night or two out there in the cold temps. And again, always be certain someone back home knows when to expect you.

Es sind beides sehr schöne Gegenden. In den tribiutaries vom Trachyte war ich selber nicht, mangels Fahrzeug. Einfacher zu erreichende Canyons sind Maidenwater, Trail Canyon, Woodruff und Swett Creek südlich davon, im Osten von der 276. Diese Wanderungen erfordern u.a. klettern, schwimmen und Route finding. Der White Canyon ist nichts für Anfänger. Du kannst aber vom TH Black Hole in den Canyon einsteigen und bis zur Black Hole wandern. Dabei wirst du nass, je nachdem wie weit du gehst. Ein weiteres Vorgehen erfordert Ausrüstung und Schwimmen. Alternativ kannst du den Fry Canyon bis zum White Cyn. laufen. Am RIM entlang, oder im Cyn. selbst.

Good, steady rain has been falling on the central and western parts of the Monument today, and will likely continue into the night as radar shows a lot of moisture still moving up out of Arizona. Currently dirt roads are muddy, slippery, some impassable, and definitely not recommended for the rest of today. They're going to need some drying time, and that should begin by tomorrow afternoon, with lots of sunshine headed into the weekend.

Thunderstorm cells have been more energetic this past week. A few washes have experienced some flooding, like at the Buckskin, where the House Rock Valley Road (#700) was impassable on 7/28.
The extended forecast issued by the Nat'l Weather Service indicates moisture will be moving north out of Arizona this weekend, bringing additional showers and thunderstorms, with the potential for heavy rain early next week.
Be cautious about leaving the pavement. BE SAFE!

Big thunderstorm cells moving up out of Arizona right now. Skutumpah and Hole-in-the-Rock roads are getting some good moisture. Advise travelers to be very cautious about leaving the pavement, and to make good, safe decisions before entering slot canyons and narrows.
The Left Hand Collet Road (#230) experienced some rockslides recently and it is currently impassable. Sounds like it will take some heavy equipment to get it cleared.

Du kannst dir auch deine Permits in die Contact Station schicken lassen und dann dort abholen. Mal was anderes. Laut Ausage des Rangers in der Contact Station, soll die Permitvergabe ab dem nächsten Jahr sich ändern. Es soll keine walk-ins für die CBs mehr geben, sondern nur noch die Lottery (20 permits p.d.).

... Dort stehen 2 Hoodoos. :)

Capitol Reef's updated road report (updated this morning, 5/13) describes several road closures as well as "conditions unknown after heavy rainfall" for the Burr Trail, Notom-Bullfrog road, and 'Road to Bullfrog Marina'. Apparently the snow and rains over the weekend were much heavier north and east of the monument (5" of snow in Torrey).
Of course this also means that roads into the higher elevations of the Dixie NF ("Roads to the North" on the monument road report) received some heavy snowfall. Conditions on those roads is currently unknown.

Updates WAVE-Lotterie und Öffnungszeiten der GSENM Visitor Center (Stand ab: 02.12.2013 - Wintersaison): Walk-in Permits für für die Coyote Buttes North und South sind nicht mehr in der Paria Contact Station erhältlich, sondern in Kanab - 745 E. Highway 89 Kanab, UT, 84741, gegenüber von der Walker’s Gas Station. (bereits bekannt) Die WAVE-Lotterie beginnt täglich um 08:30 Uhr und die Coyote Buttes South-Lotterie um 10:00 Uhr. Achtung: Jeden Freitag werden die Permits für Samstag, Sonntag und Montag verlost! Geänderte Öffnungszeiten der GSENM Visitor Center:Escalante VC ist geöffnet Montag – Freitag von 8:00 Uhr bis 16:30 Uhr. Samstag und Sonntag geschlossen! Cannonville VC hat saisonbedingt geschlossen! ...Update der Straßenzustände im GSENM vom 20.10.2013. :) After the 16 day "break", descriptions of monument roads are coming in slowly, often 2nd or 3rd hand. The County has removed the closure signs from both ends of the Cottonwood Road and people are traveling it again with high clearance recommended for numerous rough areas. Skutumpah has been graded in the last few days and is in good shape.
