| Angels Landing, one of the most awe-inspiring hikes in Zion National Park, has adopted a brand new online lottery system for permits that is being put in place and operated by the National Park Service. Why is this a big deal? Angels Landing has grown in popularity and traffic on the trail has grown unsustainable. In response to concerns about crowding and congestion on the trail, everyone who hikes Angels Landing needs to have a permit. The pilot permit program reflects lessons learned when the National Park Service metered the number of hikers on the trail in 2019 and 2021 and by distributing tickets to use the park shuttle system in response to COVID-19 in 2020. So what does this mean for those who wish to visit the park and stay with us at Zion National Park Lodge? There are two lottery types: a seasonal lottery and a day before lottery. The seasonal lottery allows you to pick seven ranked days and times or windows of days and times you want to hike. The day before lottery allows you to apply for a permit the day before your planned hike. This lottery opens every day at 12:01 a.m. and closes at 3:00 p.m. Mountain Time (MT). Please note that if you have a reservation to stay with us at Zion National Park Lodge, your reservation is not tied to whether or not you secure a permit to hike Angels Landing. Regardless of whether you are successful in the lottery or not, we are still excited to see you. Rest assured that there are plenty of noteworthy and exciting hikes in the park outside of Angels Landing!
